My love affair with BIG GREEN EGGS (BGEs) began early 2010 when
a friend "rescued" a large lonely one from the back of a stand at a
local county fair - the stall holder knew next to nothing about it and
was delighted to pass it on - his loss was my gain; invited to supper a
few weeks later I ate some of the best ribs of beef and large
prawns that I have ever tasted - succulent, juicy, melt in your mouth
stuff, and I was completely hooked and left vowing to research into
this remarkable, innovative, strangely loveable, tactile piece of kit.
Galloping forward by several months and I am incredibly thrilled to be cooking daily with our Big Green Eggs at The
Vine Tree, (which I jointly own with my partner Charlie) - we are now completely addicted to their amazing
capabilities to the extent that we are building a permanent al fresco kitchen to house them - we also fully intend
to use them in all their wondrous glory all year round - currently, we have a daily changing BGE Menu which sits well
alongside our current A la Carte and Special Menus - in fact, last Sunday we cooked the majority of our roast
meats on the extra large one, and customers were completely bowled over by the end result.
As a professional chef (in a previous life) and having actually also taught chefs in England, Europe and America, I
have become a complete convert - their versatility and sheer adaptability to any form of cooking, be it long and
slow, smoking, roasting, baking or searing are unmatched in my considered opinion - it is like owning a transportable
aga, but with added benefits - the only thing that I have discovered that they can't handle is ice cream - Baked
Alaska was a wow though!
Unfortunately I was too late to buy the company(!) but I am thrilled to have become one of a select privileged
band of foodie dealers, so do not hesitate, come and see us and sample some of their sheer delicious genius food.
